ESL CLASS

Introduction

Our community need in  their daily life  the English language as one of the vessel or means to integrate themselves into USA society. In order to reach that goal  we have decided to tremendously, encourage and enhance our people to learn English as their second language which will help them to:

1.Be helpful in USA society .
2.Be smartly communicate in working places.
3.Help their families wherever this language is needed.
4.Create a strong relationship with native English speaking communities, not only in USA , but also around the world where English language is spoken.
5.Be productive in USA industries by accomplish the work assigned.
6.Not feel stranger in this country but one of its people.

In this learning program, we have levels after which our students will be sent to GED program and college. Our community came from Great Lakes  region where they have suffered a lot due to armed conflicts which have being taking place over and over. That is the reason why the majority of adult people did not attend any schooling programs. Due to these needs, we have created the literacy in native languages, history of our countries, culture and literature of our native tongues.

LITERACY IN NATIVE LANGUAGES, HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRIES, CULTURE AND THE LITERATURE OF OUR NATIVE TONGUES.

We have the obligations of teaching our young generations culture, the history of our countries where we came from, because people without history and culture are people without soul, according the historic wisdom. We try also to teach them those native languages because as long as they grow here they speak only English and become very hard to communicate with their relatives here or overseas.

So we teach them the following native languages:

1.Kirundi
2.Kinyarwanda
3.Swahili

In this program, we need our children to be able to speak our languages as well as English, because nowadays languages are helpful whenever we need to go, to be and to work. We still having some adults persons in theirs lives, they do not know how to read and write our native languages. When they fill the gap missing when they were younger, the second step is the English level one. In our program we have different levels in order to satisfy the learning needs that our brothers and sisters encounter, or face in their learning system. To accomplish these tasks we need an appropriate place for now  we use our brothers and sisters homes, we need some didactical materials, teachers and volunteers.
